One or Two Day Intensive Workshop with Sadie Paige

Have you ever wanted to try tapestry weaving in Scotland? Join Sadie Paige for a rewarding day (or two) immersed in the contemplative craft of tapestry weaving. Suitable for complete beginners and for those who already have some experience and wish to refine their technique, this small and supportive class offers the rare opportunity to learn from a highly regarded local weaver in the peaceful surroundings of The Old Inn.

  • Cost: £95 per person (1 day) | £175 per person (2 days)
  • Included: Warped weaving frame, all equipment, a wide selection of worsted wool yarns (plus some naturally dyed wool/silk blends), tea and coffee throughout the day, and a warming lunch of homemade soup with sandwiches
  • Maximum group size: 6

During the workshop Sadie will guide you through the core techniques of tapestry weaving: forming shapes, colour blending, and achieving smooth transitions. You will weave a finished sample approximately 7 cm wide – a perfect size for learning without pressure. A simple design will be provided for those who prefer it, or you may bring sketches or create your own on the day. You are also welcome to bring special yarns of your own should you wish to incorporate them.

By the end of the session your piece will be carefully finished and cut from the frame, ready to take home as a personal keepsake or the start of future projects.

About Your Tutor

Sadie Paige has been weaving since 2013. She trained at West Dean College and with leading British tapestry artists. These included experts like Joan Baxter and Fiona Hutchison. Sadie is also an active member of the Highland Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. Furthermore, she earned a Distinction in the Certificate of Achievement in Tapestry Weaving in 2023. Sadie regularly exhibits her work in the Gairloch area. Many people also know her for her patient and encouraging teaching style.
