Authentic Highland Hospitality

As a historic Highland inn dating back to the 1790s, we embrace the quirks and charms that come with over two centuries of heritage. Each space is unique in shape and traditional in design, reflecting the wonderful character of the building.

We provide all the modern comforts you need, but the heritage of our building means you may encounter a sloped floor or a creaky floorboard. This is all part of the authentic experience of staying in one of the most storied hotels in Gairloch and indeed the West Coast. Beneath this historic charm, you will find our rooms are beautifully finished and exceptionally comfortable. We have taken great care to ensure each room is a warm, inviting space where you can truly relax after a day of Highland exploration.

More Than Just a Bed

Staying at The Old Inn is a complete Highland experience. After a day on the coast, head downstairs to soak up the atmosphere of our traditional tavern. We serve fresh, locally sourced seafood, hand-selected by our Head Chef. These daily landings from Gairloch and nearby harbours take advantage of the west coast’s pristine waters. Enjoy your meal alongside a wide selection of Highland whiskies and local ales. Some of our ales are even brewed to our own unique recipe, exclusive to The Old Inn.

Your Winter Gateway

The Old Inn is proud to be one of the few establishments in the North West Highlands to remain open throughout the colder months. Our doors remain open if you are searching for winter accommodation near the Torridon mountains. We provide a welcoming sanctuary and warmth against the Highland frost.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your check-in and check-out times?

To allow us time to prepare your room to our standards, check-in is from 4:00 pm and we kindly ask that guests depart by 10:00 am on the morning of their departure.

Is there parking available at the Inn?

Yes, we offer complimentary on-site secluded parking for all our residents. Whether you are visiting Gairloch for a relaxing retreat or navigating the North Coast 500 in a classic car, motorbike, or standard vehicle, you will find a space to park right at the Inn. Bicycles are also welcome and we offer a secured lock-up facility.

What should I expect from a building built in the 1790s?

As a historic Highland inn, our building is full of character. This means that while our rooms are cosy and well-maintained, they reflect their 18th-century origins. You may find that some floors are slightly uneven and the thick stone walls mean that every room has a different layout. We believe this is part of the charm of an authentic Highland hospitality experience.

Are all areas of the Inn dog-friendly?

Dogs are welcome in our designated dog-friendly bedrooms and in our bar area. However, to ensure comfort for all our visitors, we maintain a selection of dog-free rooms and a separate dog-free dining area for those with allergies or who prefer a pet-free environment.

What is there to do nearby?

The Old Inn is perfectly situated for exploring the great outdoors. From our front door, you can walk to the stunning Flowerdale Glen or walk to the nearest beach and the pier for marine wildlife boat trips. By car, the Beinn Eighe Nature Reserve and Loch Maree are just 20 minutes away, while the Torridon mountains and Corrieshalloch Gorge are a scenic 40-minute drive, making us an ideal choice for a year-round Highland holiday.

The world-famous Inverewe Garden—one of the most northerly botanical gardens in the world—is a short 10-minute drive from the inn, and a charming 9-hole golf course is just a brief walk away. For rainy days, the award-winning Gairloch Museum and the Russian Arctic Convoy Museum are both highly informative and well worth a visit. If you are looking for adventure, there is a fantastic range of local activities led by expert instructors, including paddleboarding, canyoning, mountain biking, coasteering, archery, axe-throwing, mountaineering, and climbing.
